Classes, capacity and the waitlist
Add a class
- Open the event with "Edit" and find "Classes".
- Fill in "Name" and a short "Code" (for example CS). The code is used on lists and when pricing.
- Optional: "Category", and "Class cap" for the most entries the class can hold.
- Optional eligibility rules: "Drivetrain", "Forced induction", "Min capacity (cc)", "Max capacity (cc)", "Earliest year", "Latest year" and "Tyre rule".
- Choose "Add class".
A car that fails a rule the system can judge, such as the year range, is blocked for that class. Engine capacity and drivetrain are not recorded on a vehicle, so the competitor sees them as "Not checked" beside the car and is not blocked. Scrutineers check those on the day.
To change a class use "Edit" beside it, then "Save class". Use "Up" and "Down" to set the order competitors see. "Remove" deletes it.
How capacity works
There are two limits. The event's "Field cap" limits accepted entries across all classes, and each "Class cap" limits one class. Leave a cap empty for no limit.
Every entry that holds a place counts against the caps: accepted, started, finished, did not finish and disqualified entries. Submitted entries do not count until you accept them.
Competitors see the places left in each class when they enter. They can still enter a full class, and are told their entry will be waitlisted.
When an entry is waitlisted
When you choose "Accept" on an entry and the class or the event is full, the entry is waitlisted instead of accepted. You do not choose "waitlist" separately. A waitlisted entry stays waitlisted until a place frees up.
The waitlist rule
Set the "Waitlist rule" on the event.
- First paid, first in. When an accepted entry gives up its place by withdrawing, the oldest waitlisted entry in the same class is accepted automatically, then the oldest elsewhere in the event if that class cannot take it. Until payment is built in, "oldest" means earliest submitted.
- Ballot. Nothing happens automatically. You choose which waitlisted entries to accept, using "Accept" in the entry list.
You can see counts on the entry list: "Accepted 12 of 30", and each class, so you know how full you are. See Work the entry list.
If something goes wrong
- You cannot accept an entry because it keeps going to the waitlist. The class or event cap is full. Raise the cap, or free a place by withdrawing someone, then accept again.
- A promoted entry surprised the competitor. Promotion on a withdrawal is automatic under "First paid, first in". Use "Ballot" if you want to choose.
